‘The Dirty Picture 2’ is coming after 15 years.

Bangla Press Desk: After a long gap of 15 years, the much-discussed Bollywood film *The Dirty Picture* is making a comeback. Producer Ekta Kapoor has confirmed the production of its sequel, *The Dirty Picture 2*.
The new film will once again tell the story of a woman. However, she has not yet revealed whose life will serve as the inspiration this time.
Recently, while appearing on Ranveer Allahbadia’s podcast, Ekta Kapoor mentioned that *The Dirty Picture 2* is one of her major upcoming projects. She is planning the sequel 15 years after the release of the original film.
This time, she wants to tell a story that she feels is personally significant.
Ekta said, "*The Dirty Picture 2* is one of the major films I am producing. I am planning to make it after 15 years. I felt there was a story here that I wanted to tell."
**The first film was inspired by the story of Silk Smitha**

Released in 2011, *The Dirty Picture* was inspired by the life of South Indian actress Silk Smitha. Vidya Balan played the lead role in the film, which also featured Naseeruddin Shah, Emraan Hashmi, and Tusshar Kapoor. The movie explored themes such as a woman's personal freedom, sexuality, and society's tendency to pass judgment.
Silk Smitha was a well-known face in South Indian cinema.
Over an acting career spanning nearly 18 years, she worked in more than 450 films. Her distinctive screen presence earned her a unique identity, though her personal life and professional persona were also surrounded by various controversies.
According to Ekta Kapoor, viewing Silk Smitha merely as a victim overlooks a crucial aspect of her story. Instead, she saw her as a woman who stood firm in her decisions regarding her own identity and sexuality.
Ekta said, "*The Dirty Picture* was about Silk Smitha. The film portrayed the story of a woman who faced condemnation for remaining steadfast in her stance on her own sexuality. Sexuality is a matter of personal choice." I never viewed her as a victim; rather, I saw her as a woman who celebrated her own sexuality and identity.
**New female lead in the sequel**
Ekta has revealed that the story of *The Dirty Picture 2* will also revolve around a woman—much like Silk Smitha. However, she has not disclosed details regarding who this woman is, which aspects of her life will be portrayed, or whether the story will be based on a real-life figure.

Meanwhile, there has been no announcement yet on whether Vidya Balan will return for the new film. Nothing has been finalized regarding the director, the cast, the start of filming, or the release date. Ekta has hinted that a detailed announcement about the movie may follow later.

It is worth noting that *The Dirty Picture* was released in theaters on December 2, 2011. Although the film was inspired by the life of Silk Smitha, it was not an exact biographical depiction. She passed away in Chennai at the age of 35.
