There is nothing to hide about the marriage.
Bangla Press Desk: Young filmmaker Iffat Jahan has crafted the film *Cut-Piece*, exploring the unfamiliar world of Mirpur’s *Jhut-potti* (garment scrap market)—a realm defined by money, power, dominance, and conflict. Torsa plays the role of Mala, a young woman from Mirpur, in the film, which is set for release on October 16. What is the character like?
Speaking on Monday, she explained that the character of Mala is starkly different from her own personality. In her words, “Mala and Torsa are completely different. Torsa is very straightforward. Since the film’s story is set in Mirpur, Mala grew up there; she is lively, somewhat 'cinematic' in nature, yet also a bit shy. She embodies the emotions typical of someone in love, but she can also be stern and speak sharply. Mala speaks with a distinct regional accent.”Torsa preferred not to reveal too much more about Mala, simply adding, "I feel that the audience will remember the character of Mala."Sifat Amin plays the role of a garment scrap trader in the film, while Imran Ahmed Saudagar portrays the antagonist. Speaking about the storyline, Torsa says, "The story is very realistic; it is based on the life of an actual garment scrap trader. The narrative revolves around various events that unfold in his life.

Those who have suffered due to syndicates and various forms of conflict will be able to relate to the film. Viewers will also gain insight into how these events impact the trader's loved ones and family."Torsa joined the film quite unexpectedly. "I had previously spoken with the director (Iffat Jahan) about a project. One day, she mentioned she wanted to discuss a film and asked me to come prepared to meet her. I went. At that stage, the entire story wasn't revealed—it was kept under wraps—and I was told only about my character. I felt that I had never played a role like this before, so I decided to take on the project."I didn't know 'cut-piece' had another meaning.
Some people jokingly ask Torsa if the movie contains "cut-piece" scenes. Addressing this, she said, "I didn't know 'cut-piece' had another meaning. When I first heard the movie's title, I didn't grasp that aspect. Later, everyone who learned the name jokingly asked, 'Why *Cut-Piece*?' That’s when I found out the term has a different connotation."
When asked why the title is *Cut-Piece*, Torsa explained, "Here, 'cut-piece' primarily refers to the leftover scraps of jute fabric. Various events unfold in the lives of the people who work with this fabric—fights, romance, and so on. The emotional scars left by these experiences are essentially what connect to the concept behind the movie's title.""So, I hear you’ve gotten married!"

Torsa shot a film titled *Mati* earlier this year. Rumors subsequently circulated that she had tied the knot with someone associated with the film. Many acquaintances even called to verify the story. Had she actually gotten married? Laughing, she said, "I heard the rumor too. It even reached a relative living in London. They called and asked, 'So, I hear you’ve gotten married!' I replied, 'Yes—though even I don't know who the groom is.'" Dismissing the speculation, Torsa added, "If I get married, you will all find out. There is no need for secrecy here, nor is there anything to hide."Future Plans
Nanjiba Torsa rose to prominence after being crowned Miss World Bangladesh in October 2019. She made her small-screen debut in 2021 with the telefilm *Swapno Tomar Jonno*. Over her four-year career, she has appeared in the original story *Plan B*. Torsa also gained fame by starring in the music video for the song "Sandhya Namilo Shyam." In addition to *Mati*, she has completed work on another film titled *Nirjon Swakkhor*. Alongside her acting endeavors, she continues to work as a presenter. When asked about her future plans, Torsa mentioned that she had received a work offer from Kolkata about three years ago. At that time, however, she had wanted to focus on films in Dhaka before establishing a presence in Kolkata, so she did not pursue the offer. Now, having worked on several films in Dhaka, she is considering working in Kolkata as well.
In Torsa's words, "I feel I can expand a bit now—perhaps work outside Bangladesh. However, I haven't yet thought about exactly how I will proceed." Source: prothom alo
