Bangla Press Desk: Professor Dr. Abdullah-Al-Mamun, a member of the Public University Management Division at the University Grants Commission (UGC), announced that initiatives are underway to introduce three special skill-development courses—alongside subject-specific curricula—in the country's universities starting next January.
UGC Member Professor Dr. Abdullah-Al-Mamun
He made this statement on Thursday (October 8) during a discussion meeting organized by Begum Rokeya University.
Dr. Mamun stated that in the current era, merely acquiring subject-specific knowledge does not guarantee a student's success in the job market. Alongside academic education, students must also be equipped with skills in areas such as information technology, job preparation, communication, professional conduct, and ethics. With this objective, three special courses—ICT (Information and Communication Technology) & AI (Artificial Intelligence), Employability Skills, and Ethics and Professionalism—are set to be introduced at the university level starting next January. These courses will assist students in acquiring the skills necessary for the modern workplace in addition to their academic knowledge.
Highlighting the government's various employment-oriented initiatives for the youth, he noted that the current government has undertaken several measures to boost youth employment and skill development. A key goal of these initiatives is to align education and training with employment, entrepreneurship, technical skills, and the demands of the industrial sector.
He emphasized that the aim is not merely to prepare students for future jobs; rather, they must be groomed to keep pace with a changing world, acquire new skills, create their own employment, and generate job opportunities for others.
