Tigers draw England and West Indies in challenging 2026 World Cup

Bangla Press Desk:   Bangladesh have found themselves in a competitive yet promising group for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, lining up alongside England, West Indies, Nepal, and debutant Italy, according to the group table provided by the ICC. Although the governing body has not yet announced the official match schedule, the early outline already gives a clear indication of the challenges that await the Tigers next year.

The tournament, to be jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka in February–March 2026, will return to the subcontinent only weeks after the successful completion of the Women’s ODI World Cup. With two major ICC events arriving in such quick succession, excitement around the global cricket calendar continues to intensify.

For Bangladesh, the projected grouping presents a stern test. England and West Indies, two former T20 world champions, stand out as the biggest hurdles in their path to the Super Eight stage. England’s dynamic top order and strategic depth make them one of the most consistent sides in the format, while the West Indies remain one of the most dangerous teams, capable of shifting momentum through sheer power hitting.

Bangladesh has shown some progress, but captain Litton Kumar and his team need to improve further to survive in this thrilling tournament. The Tigers faced disappointment against the West Indies, getting whitewashed at home and losing the series. Saif Hassan was appointed as the new vice-captain of the men's T20 team.

Nepal’s inclusion adds another layer of intrigue. The Himalayan nation has developed rapidly in the shorter formats, backed by passionate support and a fearless style of play. Bangladesh will be determined not to take them lightly, knowing that associates have increasingly proven capable of delivering surprises on the world stage.

Completing the group is Italy, who will be making their debut in the T20 World Cup. While the newcomers may not carry the same pedigree as the established teams, associate sides have often made tournaments more unpredictable, and Bangladesh will be aware of the need to approach every fixture with full focus.
