Bangla Press Desk: The Bangladesh Army has seized Tk10.49 lakh in cash along with a microbus linked to an independent candidate from Chandanaish upazila in Chattogram-14 constituency.
The vehicle was seized from the Abdul Barihat area late on Tuesday night.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Chandanaish Police Station, Md Ilias Khan, confirmed the incident.
“Preliminary information suggests that the seized money belongs to an independent candidate. The Army handed over the cash and the microbus to the police station at around 1:30am,” the OC said.The OC added that further legal steps would be taken in line with the decision of the Election Tribunal after verifying the facts.
A video of the seizure has circulated on social media, showing army personnel surrounding a man standing beside a microbus while counting money.
When asked about his identity, the man identified himself as the ‘estate manager’ of independent candidate Mizanul Haque Chowdhury.
Mizanul Haque Chowdhury is contesting the Chattogram-14 constituency as an independent candidate with the football symbol.
