Torsa Makes Her Big-Screen Debut in ‘Cut-Piece’
Bangla Press Desk: Rafah Nanjeba Torsa, known for her glamorous presence on the ramp and for representing Bangladesh at the Miss World pageant, is set to make her big-screen debut with a very different role. She will appear in the upcoming Dhallywood film “Cut-Piece”, a gritty story exploring the dark world surrounding the garment waste, or “jhut,” trade.
Produced and directed by Iffat Jahan Mom under the banner of Black Papers Films, Cut-Piece revolves around money, power, dominance and conflict within the jhut business. Torsa plays the central character, Mala, in the film. The movie delves into the multimillion-taka business built around discarded garments and fabric scraps. Behind this seemingly ordinary trade lies a complex network involving local politics, organised crime and battles for control. The movie was shot for 11 consecutive days at real locations in Mirpur’s jhut market, adding authenticity to its setting.
For Torsa, portraying Mala was a major challenge. Talking about the film “Cut-Piece”, Torsa said the largely unexplored world of the jhut market attracted her. She chose the role because she wanted to move beyond conventional romantic-heroine characters and establish herself as a versatile actress through a strong, realistic performance.
Newcomer Shifat Amin Shuvo plays Taj opposite Torsa. Imran Ahmed Saudagar appears as the antagonist, while Elina Shammi, Bappi Ashraf, Saiful Kabir and Shahzada Samrat feature in other important roles.
Initially planned for release during this year’s Eid-ul-Fitr, “Cut-Piece” is now scheduled to hit cinemas on 16 October, coinciding with the festive Durga Puja season.
