Trump mocks the popularity of the name ‘Mohammad’
Bangla Press Desk: US President Donald Trump has made a mocking remark regarding the widespread use of the name "Mohammed" in the Muslim world. He made the comment on Friday at a campaign rally in Dalton, Georgia, while criticizing the Iranian presidency.
This was reported by the news agency Reuters.
At the rally, Trump said that if you are ever unsure about someone's name from the Middle East, just call them "Mohammed." There is about a 65 percent chance that you will be right. "I’ve been saying this for years," he added. "I’ve never been wrong."At a rally held in a hangar at Dalton Municipal Airport in Georgia, Trump remarked—in the context of Iran—that it is the only country where no one wants to be president. He then proceeded to mock the idea by jokingly suggesting that various individuals named "Mohammad" could become president. (Notably, Masoud Pezeshkian has been serving as the president of Iran since 2024.)
"Mohammad" is one of the most common male names among Muslims; many Muslim families name their sons after the Prophet Muhammad, the founder of Islam.
Trump spoke at the Georgia rally as part of a campaign effort for Republican candidates ahead of the country’s midterm elections, scheduled for November 3. However, the crowd at the rally did not respond much to his jest. Conversely, rights activists and organizations advocating for Muslim rights have criticized his remarks.
They argue that Trump’s comments portray Muslims, immigrants, and ethnic minorities in a negative light and subject them to mockery.
