Trump Removes Son’s Girlfriend from Ambassadorial Post

Bangla Press Desk: The White House has asked the US Ambassador to Greece, Kimberly Guilfoyle, to resign. This decision follows a series of allegations of misconduct against her. The White House confirmed the matter on Tuesday (October 13).
White House Press Secretary Katie Zaccaria stated during her first press briefing on Tuesday, "The White House has asked Ambassador Guilfoyle to resign." She added that Guilfoyle had been a valuable asset to the administration and wished her well for the future.
An official later stated on Tuesday that the White House had received Guilfoyle's formal resignation letter. US President Donald Trump said the reason for removing Guilfoyle was that he was displeased with the reports published about her. However, he noted that he had not spoken to Guilfoyle personally.
In a lengthy post on social media platform X, Guilfoyle acknowledged that her tenure might be coming to an end. However, she denied the allegations against her, stating that she would fight vigorously to protect her name, reputation, and integrity.
Allegations against Guilfoyle include soliciting money in exchange for facilitating access to Trump administration officials prior to the finalization of her ambassadorial appointment. She is also accused of accepting expensive gifts while serving as ambassador and bringing a lobbyist from a Greek construction firm to an official government meeting.
However, Guilfoyle's lawyers have denied the allegations regarding the solicitation of money. They also claimed that reports published about her travel were misleading. Furthermore, the lawyers stated that Guilfoyle had adhered to regulations concerning the acceptance of gifts and the disclosure of information.
Eric Deeters, a former Trump supporter and donor, alleged that a few days before her Senate confirmation, Guilfoyle messaged him asking for funds to pay a $100,000 American Express bill. Deeters claimed that, in return, Guilfoyle promised to remain a trusted ally within the Trump administration. However, he did not provide the money. Deeters told CNN that the exchange of favors for money was evident in this case. However, Guilfoyle’s lawyers have dismissed the allegations as false. They claim that Deeters owed Guilfoyle outstanding payments for her work as a speaker and consultant, and she was attempting to recover those funds.
In a post on X, Guilfoyle also denied the allegations, stating that she would not allow her decades of public service to be defined by false accusations.
Guilfoyle was engaged to Donald Trump Jr., Trump’s eldest son, for four years before their relationship ended. She subsequently assumed the role of U.S. Ambassador to Greece in September 2025. On Tuesday, Trump stated that Guilfoyle was not a member of his family; she had been in a relationship with his son a long time ago.
