Two Bangladeshis executed in Mecca for ‘immoral acts’ in a mosque
BanglaPress Desk: Two Bangladeshi nationals have been executed in Saudi Arabia after being found guilty of committing "immoral acts" inside a mosque in Mecca. The Saudi Ministry of Interior announced that the sentences were carried out on Wednesday.
According to a report by the Saudi-based news outlet 'Ajel', the two individuals are Nazrul Islam Abdul Basir and Sithi Akter. Following their arrest, security authorities conducted an investigation and formally filed charges. The case was subsequently referred to a court, where the judge found them guilty.
Taking into account the gravity of the offense—as well as the violation of the sanctity of both the location and the occasion—the court imposed the death penalty under the category of "discretionary punishment" (ta'zir). The verdict was later upheld on appeal, and a royal decree was issued to carry out the execution.
In a statement, the Saudi Ministry of Interior affirmed the government's firm commitment to upholding security and justice, and to strictly enforcing Islamic law against those who violate the sanctity of mosques or engage in such immoral activities. Furthermore, the ministry warned that anyone attempting to commit such heinous crimes in the future will face severe legal consequences.
