Bangla Press Desk: British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has said the UK will recognise a Palestinian state at a UN meeting in September unless Israel meets certain conditions.
He said that the recognition will proceed unless the Israeli government takes “substantive steps to end the appalling situation in Gaza,” including agreeing to a ceasefire and committing to a long-term peace process.
However, Israel condemned the decision, saying it “constitutes a reward for Hamas and harms efforts to achieve a ceasefire.”
About 140 countries have so far formally recognised a Palestinian state, and last week France pledged to do the same at the UN meeting.
