UNO, OC withdrawn over Sherpur political clash: EC
Bangla Press Desk: The authorities have withdrawn the concerned upazila nirbahi officer (UNO) and officer-in-charge of police station following a deadly clash between BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami in Jhenaigati upazila of Sherpur on Wednesday.
Election Commission (EC) Secretary Akhtar Ahmed confirmed the withdrawal of officials on Thursday.
Mentionable, an activist of Jamaat-e-Islami was killed and dozens others from both parties were injured in a clash over taking the front seat in an all-party election-centric programme that was arranged at Mini Stadium, Jhenaigati upazila on Wednesday noon.
The clashes started shortly after the event’s organiser and president, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Ashraful Alam Rasel, ascended the stage.
He has been withdrawn for failing to prevent tensions.
Earlier, the Chief Adviser’s Press Wing said that the police have already launched an investigation into the incident, adding all the perpetrators would be brought to justice.
The Press Wing called on the two biggest political parties to act responsibly and restraint their activists with the general elections only about two weeks away.
