Bangla Press Desk: Mahin Sarkar, a key leader of the July Uprising and now a member of NCP, has alleged that people linked to the ruling party attacked him after he protested inconsistencies in a state-sponsored documentary on the uprising.
In a Facebook post, he alleged that the attack took place in front of the acting president on Wednesday, and that he was proud of being a victim.
A commotion broke out following the documentary’s screening at Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre, Agargaon on Wednesday.
A section of people injured in the uprising and family members of the martyrs alleged that the documentary contained numerous inconsistencies. Later, Acting President Hafiz Uddin Ahmad also acknowledged the presence of inconsistencies, but noted the audience should have maintained peace after a minister had asked them to.
Mahin alleged that in the documentary Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has been portrayed as the declarer of the “one-point demand” of government resignation that led to the downfall of the then authoritarian Awami League regime.
Mahin claimed that NCP Convener Nahid Islam declared the one-point after knowing certain death, but he is not present in “BNP’s version of history.”
