US journalist critically wounded in Israeli attack in the West Bank

Bangla Press Desk: A day that began with the joyful harvesting of olives in the occupied West Bank turned into a moment of terror. Heidi Levine, a photojournalist for the prominent American newspaper *The Washington Post*, was assaulted by extremist Israeli settlers while covering the harvest. She, along with several Palestinian farmers, sustained serious injuries and has been admitted to a hospital in Ramallah.
The incident took place in the West Bank village of Abu Falah. As Palestinian villagers were gathering olives from their groves, Heidi Levine was there in her professional capacity. Suddenly, a group of Israeli settlers—their faces concealed—rushed toward them, wielding sticks and clubs. While those present attempted to flee for their lives, the attackers seized Levine and threw her to the ground.
Speaking from her hospital bed, an emotional Levine recounted that the assailants kept her pinned to the ground, repeatedly kicking her for at least 10 minutes. Despite clear indications of her identity as a journalist, they smashed her camera and bag, and snatched her mobile phone. Expressing her outrage, she remarked that no person in their right mind could inflict such cruelty upon others; their actions were entirely inhumane.
Footage circulating on social media shows that the attackers did not stop at assaulting Levine; they also hurled stones at the Palestinians, set vehicles ablaze, and ignited olive trees. A 63-year-old woman and a 40-year-old male farmer were also left severely injured in the attack. Questions have been raised regarding the passive stance of Israeli soldiers who were present nearby during the incident.
The Foreign Press Association (FPA) and *The Washington Post* have issued strong condemnations of this unjust and barbaric assault, demanding that the perpetrators be identified and held accountable. Following widespread international criticism, the Israeli police and military have stated that they are investigating the matter. However, the victims fear that, as has been the case with many such incidents in the past, the perpetrators may ultimately go unpunished. Source: CNN
