Bangla Press Desk: The University Teachers Link (UTL), an organisation of University teachers, formed a human chain on Saturday protesting the Israeli attack on the Global Sumud Flotilla—an international humanitarian naval mission carrying food, relief, and medical supplies for the besieged Palestinians in Gaza.
The programme was held at 11:30am at the foot of the Aparajeyo Bangla monument on the university campus.
UTL teachers and human rights activists joined the protest, condemning the ongoing genocide and Israeli aggression in Palestine, and urged the global community to take immediate and effective measures to stop the atrocities.
The human chain was conducted by Prof Md Belal Hossain, said, “The world conscience is silent today. Global organisations are not responding as expected. Israel has turned Gaza into a valley of death. The Sumud Flotilla is a symbolic effort to awaken the world conscience.”
He further added, “We want humanity to wake up so that no more children or mothers are washed away in blood. This barbarity of Israel must be stopped.”
Islamic University Prof Md Mustafizur Rahman condemned the ongoing violence, saying, “Israel is carrying out inhumane massacres on the Palestinian people just because they are Muslims. This is an extremely shameful chapter for humanity.”
He questioned the silence of global bodies, asking, “Some people are trying to reach Gaza with a little food and medicine, but Israel cannot tolerate even that. The question arises today—where is the UN? Where is the OIC?”
Dhaka University Prof Md Abu Sayem described the situation in Gaza as “unimaginable,” saying, “The barbarity that Israel has been carrying out on our Muslim brothers and sisters in Gaza for two years is beyond words. The Muslim world’s silence is deeply shameful. Humanity has fallen asleep.”
He added that, “If the so-called peace agreement imposed on the Palestinians is implemented, their dream of an independent homeland will be shattered. The coexistence of Palestine and Israel based on the two-nation theory can be the only sustainable solution.”
Prof HM Mosharraf Hossain also emphasised the need for urgent international intervention. “The Israeli aggression in Gaza must be stopped immediately, and the blockade must be lifted. The world community must play an active role in establishing Palestine as an independent state,” he said.
Speakers at the human chain called on the United Nations, international human rights organisations, and the Muslim world to take concrete initiatives to end the ongoing genocide in Palestine and expressed strong solidarity with the Global Sumud Flotilla.
