Warehouse Fire at Adamjee EPZ Brought Under Control
Bangla Press Desk: A fire broke out at a fabric warehouse of Ananta Apparels Ltd inside the Adamjee Export Processing Zone in Siddhirganj of Narayanganj early on Wednesday.
The blaze destroyed a large quantity of fabrics and other manufacturing materials before firefighters brought the situation under control.
Nine units of the Fire Service and Civil Defence worked for nearly three hours to contain the fire. Authorities reported no casualties.
The fire started around 4am and quickly spread through different sections of the warehouse, creating panic in the area.
An initial fire unit from the Adamjee EPZ Fire Service responded to the scene, but authorities deployed eight more units from four nearby fire stations as the blaze intensified.
Local residents and factory workers said they first noticed smoke rising from the warehouse before flames rapidly engulfed the building. They said the presence of large quantities of fabrics and combustible materials appeared to fuel the fire, while intense heat and thick smoke alarmed workers at nearby factories.
Firefighters brought the blaze under control at around 7am and continued damping-down operations to extinguish any remaining hotspots and prevent the fire from reigniting.
Senior Station Officer Miron Mia of the Adamjee Fire Service and Civil Defence Station said firefighters managed to control the fire after nearly three hours of work.
"We are continuing the damping-down operation. We cannot yet confirm the exact cause of the fire or the extent of the damage. Investigators will determine whether any chemicals stored in the warehouse contributed to the fire," he said.
He added that authorities had not received any reports of casualties. Initial assessments suggest the fire damaged a large quantity of fabrics, raw materials and other goods stored inside the warehouse. Officials will determine the exact losses after completing the investigation.
