We are a little worried about the election: Fakhrul
Bangla Press Desk:   BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said on Sunday that his party is somewhat concerned about the upcoming parliamentary election amid conspiracies and various incidents occurring across the country. “We are a little bit concerned about holding polls. However, the election will be held on time and it will be acceptable to the people. BNP has supported a free, fair and impartial election from the beginning,” he said while speaking to reporters during a visit to the BNP’s Thakurgaon district unit biennial council at Thakurgaon District School Ground. Regarding the biennial council, he said all preparatory work had been completed. “There are various arrangements in place surrounding the council session.” “We hope this will be a very successful council. The biggest achievement is that our acting chairman, Tarique Rahman, will deliver the keynote address. This council will open up new horizons,” Fakhrul added.
When journalists asked about the speech by a Jatiya Party co-chairman, suggesting they would nominate Awami League leaders with clean images, he declined to comment.Meanwhile, speaking at a discussion organised by the Jatiyatabadi Income Tax Lawyers Forum at the Kakrail Diploma Engineering Institute in the capital on Sunday, BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed said stability would come to the country through elections.“A political government must be established through election. A parliamentary government must be established through which the hopes and aspirations of the nation will be fulfilled,” he said. The BNP leader alleged that conspirators are attempting to sabotage the election, which is scheduled for February 2026, a week before Ramadan or even earlier.
He warned those trying to create obstacles and spread confusion that the country is now in an election atmosphere, with an election mood prevailing nationwide.Salahuddin said the party's acting chairman, Tarique Rahman, will return to Bangladesh soon, and that day will effectively mark the completion of half of the party’s election campaign.“Tarique Rahman will return to the country very soon. On that day, everything regarding the election will be established. I am not saying the election will be held that day, but once he comes, half of BNP’s campaign will already be done,” he said. The BNP leader also accused the Awami League of undermining the spirit of the Liberation War and democracy.
“Politics in the coming days will ensure they (Awami League) cannot stand anymore,” he added. This article was originally published on Daily Sun.
