  Bangla Press Desk: Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman said on Wednesday his party would not accept a “name-only” election like in the past and demanded a free and fair national election acceptable to all. “We do not want, nor will we accept, a rigged election like in the past. We want a fair and credible election that ensures equal opportunity for all,” he said while addressing a rally in Beanibazar upazila of Sylhet as the chief guest. The event was presided over by Beanibazar Jamaat Ameer Maulana Faizul Islam. “We want no premature delivery. We want a strong democracy,” Shafiqur Rahman added, warning that the use of black money and political favouritism would not be tolerated.
He also called for an impartial Election Commission and neutral administration during the polls. The Jamaat leader also placed several other demands, including ensuring the voting rights of expatriates and fair local government elections. “We want to build a humane, corruption-free and just Bangladesh, free from discrimination and irregularities,” he said. A day earlier, while addressing a roadside rally in Dakop upazila of Khulna at Chalna Billalia Alim Madrasa Maidan, the Jamaat chief reiterated the party’s vision for establishing Islamic rule in the country.
“We have seen many regimes based on exploitation, not governance. Now we want honest leadership and the rule of the Quran. I want to fight in the path of religion until my last breath and embrace martyrdom,” he told the gathering. He also referenced party members who he said were martyred for the Islamic movement, including Maulana Abu Sayeed and another Abu Sayeed, who he claimed died during the recent July-August mass uprising. Referring to the recent military aircraft crash, Rahman expressed sorrow, noting that many students and teachers lost their lives and that the condition of at least 30 injured victims remains critical.
