Weather office reveals when winter will set in across the country.
Bangla Press Desk: The month of Ashwin is currently underway according to the Bengali calendar. Although the peak of winter usually occurs during the months of Poush and Magh, the arrival of cooler winds is already being felt in several northern districts, including Panchagarh and Thakurgaon.
Simultaneously, northerly winds have begun blowing in Dhaka, signaling a drop in temperature. However, it will still be more than a month before the full chill of winter sets in.
AKM Nazmul Haque, a meteorologist at the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD), stated that the onset of winter-like weather could begin in most parts of the country, including Dhaka, from the third week of November.
Based on an analysis of weather patterns over the past four to five years, he indicated that the influence of winter could persist until February this year.
During this period, temperatures in the capital, Dhaka, are likely to drop to between 11 and 13 degrees Celsius.
The meteorologist noted that winter could arrive in the northeastern and northwestern regions of the country as early as the first week of November. However, the chill is likely to be felt across most areas starting from the third week of the month. The intensity of winter will increase from December, peaking in January, while daytime temperatures are expected to rise again after mid-February, according to Nazmul Haque.
On Tuesday (October 13), the minimum temperature recorded in Tetulia, Panchagarh, was 19.3 degrees Celsius. On Wednesday (October 14), the minimum temperature there was 19.5 degrees Celsius.
Meanwhile, the maximum temperature recorded in Dhaka on Tuesday was 36.5 degrees Celsius. Although northerly winds have started blowing in the capital, the dense population and urbanization mean it may take until the third week of November for the winter chill to become distinctly noticeable.
