What Nobel laureate Pillay said regarding US sanctions on the ICC

Bangla Press Desk: Nobel Peace Prize-winning human rights activist Navi Pillay has responded to the US sanctions imposed on the International Criminal Court (ICC). On Saturday (October 10), the former ICC judge described the US sanctions against the court as "unprecedented and unacceptable," according to a report by Geo TV.
Speaking via video link from Nuremberg during an event at the Nobel Peace Center in Oslo, Pillay said, "There is currently widespread tension and concern regarding the existence of international courts, particularly the International Criminal Court in The Hague. Hundreds of staff members there feel they are under threat."
The 85-year-old South African lawyer stated, "The most significant point is that a country has announced sanctions against judges solely because of the orders they issued. This is unprecedented and unacceptable."
The Norwegian Nobel Committee announced on Friday that former ICC judge Pillay is receiving this year's prestigious Nobel Peace Prize.
US President Donald Trump has long expressed a desire to win the award. However, having failed to secure it this time as well, both Trump and his ally Israel have criticized the Nobel Committee.
Within hours of the announcement of Pillay as the laureate, the US announced new sanctions against the ICC.
In addition to her service at the ICC, Pillay served as the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights from 2008 to 2014. She also led the UN's Independent International Commission of Inquiry (COI), which identified the commission of atrocities in Gaza last year.
