Bangla Press Desk: US Vice President JD Vance has claimed that without the presence of the US Navy in the Strait of Hormuz, gasoline prices in the United States would be three times higher than they are today. He also expressed optimism that fuel prices would decline once the conflict involving the US, Israel, and Iran comes to an end.
The Vice President made these remarks while speaking at a town hall event hosted by the American media outlet CBS.
"Fuel prices are very high right now," he noted, adding that he believes costs will begin to fall once the conflict with Iran concludes.
Vance attributed the rise in fuel prices to the closure of the Strait of Hormuz and Iranian attacks on oil tankers. He remarked that such a situation—where a single nation attempts to completely halt global energy supplies—is unprecedented.
"If the US Navy weren't working to keep oil and gas flowing through the Strait of Hormuz, gasoline prices would be three times higher," Vance stated.
He further warned, "If we were to withdraw and allow Iran to control shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, you would end up paying significantly more for gasoline."
Vance emphasized that keeping the Strait of Hormuz open remains a top priority for the United States. Additionally, Washington’s objective is to secure verifiable commitments from Iran to ensure it does not revive its nuclear program.
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most critical energy transit routes, through which vast quantities of oil and gas are transported to international markets. Any disruption to shipping in this corridor could have a major impact on global energy prices and supply.
