Bangla Press Desk: Without naming any specific individual or content creator, popular Pakistani actress Hania Aamir stated, "Women are not anyone's property."
Her remarks came amidst a wave of criticism on social media directed at Bollywood actress Katrina Kaif. A storm of comments erupted among netizens after Katrina made a public appearance following a long hiatus.
On Thursday (September 17), Hania took to her Instagram Stories to share her stance. She wrote that in 2026, it is absurd to turn women's bodies, appearances, beauty, age, and personal lives into subjects of ridicule.
Previously, similar mockery and negative chatter regarding women had surfaced on social media in Pakistan. Actresses Zalay Sarhadi and Amna Ilyas had spoken out at the time, arguing that the impact of such behavior is not limited to famous women; it also harms women in society who hold less power.
Hania raised her voice against the trend of making jokes and creating content centered on women's appearances, bodies, age, or personal lives. She asserted that such matters regarding women cannot be dismissed simply as "jokes" or "freedom of expression." She also urged those who popularize such content—both creators and viewers—to act responsibly.
Hania Aamir noted that labeling something as an "opinion" or "humor" does not automatically make it acceptable. She emphasized a clear distinction between offering a comment and turning a woman's personal life into a source of entertainment.
She pointed out that the impact of one's words extends beyond the immediate moment; when a public figure makes a comment, it inevitably influences their fans and followers.
The actress said, "You aren't speaking into a void. You are shaping what others perceive as normal, funny, and acceptable."
Hania Aamir called upon not only content creators but also the audience to be conscious of this issue. She noted that millions of people consume such content, and collectively, the public determines what kind of discourse regarding women is considered acceptable. The actress stated that while one expects respectful behavior from society, one should not popularize the very opposite of such conduct. Hania further clarified her stance regarding women.
She said, "Women are not anyone's property. Their bodies are not subjects for public commentary, nor should their appearances be topics of public discussion. By now, we should have moved beyond this."
Urging people not to popularize such content, Hania added, "Stop allowing this kind of content to spread. Stop making a mockery of women and calling it entertainment. We are capable of better than this."
