‘Won’t run state keeping people in dark if voted to power’

Bangla Press Desk:   Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman said on Tuesday that the party would ensure full transparency in state affairs if voted into power in the next general election, pledging that no decisions would be taken without public consent.

“If we are entrusted with running the state, we will not do anything while keeping the people in the dark. We want to bring change to society and reshape it by involving the public,” he said while addressing a programme in Dhaka.

Speaking at a views-exchange meeting with pharmaceutical businessmen at a convention hall in the capital, he said the existing dysfunctional business environment must be reformed to ensure the

country’s progress and development.

The Jamaat ameer also said the party would work to establish a just, humanitarian and accountable society if it came to power through the 13th parliamentary election, expected in early February next year.

Prominent figures from the medical sector, along with senior Jamaat leaders, also spoke at the event organised by Jamaat-e-Islami in the Dhaka-15 constituency.

“We will certainly consider the realistic opinions of our stakeholders and give them priority before making any decision,” he said.

Claiming that many doctors are neglecting their professional code of conduct due to incentives offered by pharmaceutical companies, he said that doctors already have full scope to earn legally and lead a respected life in society.

“But many are abandoning the right path and pursuing illicit income, which is morally and religiously unacceptable,” he added.

Accusing pharmaceutical companies of offering cars, flats, travel tickets and even covering the overseas educational expenses of doctors’ children, the Jamaat ameer said such practices are blinding many doctors to ethical conduct.
