Youth sentenced to life in prison for raping 8-year-old child
Mymensingh Correspondent: A court in Mymensingh city has sentenced a young man named Kabir Hossain Rubel Mia (35) to life imprisonment in an 8-year-old child rape case. At the same time, he was sentenced to 6 months of non-commissioned imprisonment for failing to pay a fine of Tk 20,000. District and Sessions Judge Sudipta Sarkar of the Child Violence Prevention Tribunal announced the verdict on Wednesday afternoon. This is the first verdict of the Child Violence Prevention Tribunal of Mymensingh.
The convicted Rubel Mia is the son of Babul Mia of Akua Chowringhee More area of the city.
According to the case details, the child was returning home after the evening of August 31, 2016. At that time, Rubel Mia grabbed her from behind, held her in her face and threatened to kill her with a knife. Later, he took her to a secluded place in the city and forcibly raped her and threatened to kill her if she did not tell anyone about the incident. Later, the child returned home in a bloody state and narrated the details of the incident to her family during interrogation.
After this incident, the child's father filed a case with the Kotwali Model Police Station as a plaintiff. The Child Violence Prevention Tribunal announced this verdict after 10 years of the case. This is the first life sentence in the Child Violence Prevention Tribunal.
