Banglapress Desk: The Bangladesh Embassy in Brazil has celebrated the 51st anniversary of the historic Mujibnagar Day. On the occasion of the day, all the officials and employees of the embassy were present at the special discussion meeting organized at the embassy on the morning of 17th April.
A minute’s silence was observed at the beginning of the program paying homage to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and paying homage to all the martyrs and all the martyrs killed in the August 15 brutal massacre. Messages delivered by the President and the Prime Minister were read on the occasion of the day. Special prayers were also offered for the soul of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the great architect of Bangladesh’s independence, all the martyrs who sacrificed their lives in the war of liberation, four national leaders and the family of Bangabandhu killed in the brutal August 15 massacre. A documentary titled “Mujibnagar – First Capital of Bangladesh” was screened at the event which helped all those present to understand the significance of the day.
During the discussion, the Defense Adviser of the Embassy highlighted the important role of the Mujibnagar government in the diplomatic and military spheres of the Great Liberation War. Afterwards, Bangladesh Ambassador to Brazil Sadia Faizunnesa spoke on the importance of the day. In her speech, the Ambassador recalled Bangabandhu’s immense contribution to the rise of independent Bangladesh and paid deep respects to him.
She said, “As a nation, we are fortunate to have a leader with rare leadership qualities and organizational skills like Bangabandhu.” He expressed his gratitude to the four national leaders who led the Mujibnagar government in the absence of Bangabandhu. She discussed the role of the Mujibnagar government in accelerating Bangladesh’s independence by influencing world public opinion in favor of Bangladesh’s independence.
He mentioned that Bangabandhu’s declaration of independence became a reality on 17 April 1971 with the swearing in of Mujibnagar government at Amrakan in Baidyanathtala of Meherpur district and the government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh started its official journey.
The Ambassador also recalled the contribution of diplomats in the great war of liberation.
The Ambassador reminded the members of the Embassy that as the only Embassy of Bangladesh in South America, the Bangladesh Embassy in Brasilia has many responsibilities. She called upon all the embassies to share the history of Bangladesh Liberation War, the role of Bangabandhu in the rise of independent Bangladesh and the recent socio-economic development of Bangladesh under the leadership of Bangabandhu’s daughter Prime Minister among the people of South America including Brazil. The Ambassador called upon all to work from their respective positions to establish the golden Bengal of Bangabandhu’s dream with the spirit of independence.
