Staff Reporter: Abdul Mannan was elected president and Rezaul Alam Apu as general secretary in the election of Beanibazar Social and Cultural Association, a popular social organization in New York, USA. The election was held last Sunday (October 22) with great enthusiasm. In this election, 38 candidates contested directly on behalf of Mannan-Jewell and Misbah-Apu panels. The Mannan-Jewell panel was led by the current president Abdul Mannan and Jasim Uddin Jewel. On the other hand, Misbah-Apu panel was led by former general secretary of the organization Michbah Ahmed and Rezaul Alam Apu. Continuous polling was held from 9 am to 8:30 pm at the Majestic Marquise at City Weight Park.
Abdul Mannan was re-elected president with a margin of only 13 votes in this election battle in the results announced by the Election Commission. He got 1,937 votes. His only rival Misbah Ahmed got 1,924 votes. On the other hand, Rezaul Alam Apu was elected as General Secretary with a margin of 339 votes. Apur received 2086 votes. His only rival Jasim Uddin Jewel got 1747 votes. Apu got the highest number of votes in this election. It should be noted that Misbah-Apu was defeated in the panel contest in the last election.
In this election, it is said that out of about 7500 voters of the association, about 4000 voters cast their votes. The Misbah-Apu panel won the election. Among the 19-member executive council of the association, Misbah-Apu panel won 16 posts including general secretary and Mannan-Apu panel president 3 candidates.
On that day, the weight park was festive around the election. In this election, as both the panels are strong, the polls are fiercely contested. The winning candidates of Mannan-Jewel Panel are: President-Abdul Mannan, Assistant General Secretary-Raju Ahmad and Treasurer- Abdul Hannan Dukhu.
On the other hand, the winning candidates of Misbah-Apu panel are: Vice-President- Muhibur Rahman Ruhul, General Secretary- Rezaul Alam Apu, Organizing Secretary- Mahmudul Kabir Rubel, Literary and Cultural Secretary- Chhiddiq Ahmad, Office Secretary- Shamsul Alam Shiplu, Publicity Secretary- Abu Russell, Sports Editor- Jamil Ahmed, Social Welfare Editor- Faiz Ahmed and Women Affairs Editor- Hafsa Ferdous Helen. Candidates for the post of executive members are: Mahbub Uddin Alam, Mohammad Amin Uddin, Iqbal Hossain, Rezwan Ahmad, Masudur Rahman, Sharif Ahmad and Farhad Hossain.
