Staff Reporter: While welcoming Foreign Minister Dr. Hasan Mahmood at John F. Kennedy (JFK) Airport in New York, there was an extreme ruckus and scuffle among the leaders and activists of the United States Awami League. When the foreign minister arrived in New York at around 9:30 pm local time on Wednesday (May 29), extreme tension broke out between the two groups of Awami League over giving him flowers. A scuffle broke out between the two in front of Terminal 8 of the airport. Bangladesh Ambassador Mohammad Imran, who came from Washington DC, quickly got into the car with the minister.

Several Awami League leaders and eyewitnesses said on condition of anonymity that before the minister’s plane landed, it was decided that both of them would stand in a row on both sides and the minister would meet everyone while leaving. But when the foreign minister was leaving, some rioters of the Awami League broke the line and tried to give him a bouquet of flowers. At one point, both the groups started pushing and then fighting. The source mentioned that Foreign Minister Hasan Mahmud witnessed the internal conflicts and disputes between the two groups of Awami League today.

It is to be noted that Foreign Minister Hasan Mahmud came to the United States on a three-day visit to attend the special meeting of the International Day of Peacekeeping at the United Nation. Apart from attending several sessions of the United Nations, he will also participate in an exchange meeting with the leaders and activists of the New York Awami League on Thursday (May 30) evening at the local Gulshan Terrace. As a result of the internal conflicts between the two groups of the United States Awami League, party leader and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has given the New York State Awami League the task of organizing an exchange meeting. Expired committee president Dr. Siddiqur Rahman angry at this incident. Activists present at the airport alleged that under the secret leadership of his favorites had voluntarily rioted. They said that if the exchange meeting with Foreign Minister Hasan Mahmud was held under the banner of Awami League, then such an incident would not have happened at the airport.

For the opinion of Dr. Siddiqur Rahman, New York State Awami League President Mojibur Rahman Miah and General Secretary Shaheen Ajmal tried to contact them but they could not be found.
