Expatriates mourn death of ‘Janmobhumi’ editor’s sister in New York

Staff Reporter: The death of Josna Sarkar, elder sister of Ratan Talukder, editor of the weekly ‘Janmobhumi’ published from New York, has been deeply mourned by people from various walks of life, including the expatriate media. Jotsna breathed her last last Thursday (December 10) at around 6 pm at his home in Nagra Para, Netrokona. She was suffering from geriatric disease. The next day, Friday (December 11), her last rites were performed at the Netrokona crematorium, according to family sources.
She was 81 years old at the time of his death. She is survived by a son, 6 brothers and 3 sisters, grandchildren and numerous relatives. Her husband, former headmaster Akshay Kumar Sarkar, passed away six years ago. Among the brothers of the late Jotsna Sarkar, Ratan Talukder lives in Queens Village, New York and Bijan Talukder lives in Woodside. Other brothers and sisters live in Bangladesh and Calcutta.
