The letter, signed by 56 lawmakers led by Glenn Growthman, GOP Representative of Wisconsin, cites recent figures released by the Customs and Border Protection (CBP). He did not visit the border in the 85 days since the vice president was tasked with resolving the crisis. He also declined to meet with Border Patrol Agents, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials and local law enforcement officials.

The letter was criticized for claiming that Harris was trying to stop illegal immigration by verifying the “root cause” of the immigration and had discussed the issue during his recent visit to Guatemala.
“You said at the time of his appointment that I could not think of anyone better qualified for the job,” the letter said, referring to Biden.

“We all made mistakes when it came to hiring and we realized when someone else needed to be assigned a job. We sincerely request that you find someone else in your administration to assist you in dealing with this border crisis.
Meanwhile, Texas GOP Senator Ted Cruz, a fierce critic of the Biden administration, has blamed Harris for not coming to the border since taking office in January.
However, Harris and his staff insist that their diplomatic work focuses on Mexico and Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador. They are working on the issue. The Vice President will visit the border area at a convenient time.
