Bangla Press Desk: Bangladesh Cricket Board’s (BCB) ad-hoc committee chairman Tamim Iqbal said they are planning to install a 27,000 square-foot canopy over the East Gallery at the Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.
The BCB interim head said this to reporters on Thursday, saying that the shade will provide some much needed relief to the fans.
“Let me say firstly, the place where the screen and scoreboard are stationed in our stadium, there is no shade there. If you notice in every game, in this gallery the ticket price is the cheapest and the most fans you can find here. They face a lot of troubles in this heat. So we all agreed to place a canopy setup, which is about 27,000 square feet,” said Tamim.
“This way you can also see the screen. Almost 27,000 square feet will come under shade. Similar thing was done recently in Dhaka Stadium, it will be something like that. We have started the process and I hope in due time you all can see it. I think it was absolutely necessary for the comfort of our crowd,” he noted.
He added, “Secondly, our honourable sports minister told us about solar system, and we also agreed with this. You know every month we have to pay a huge amount in electricity bill. We have studied about this, it is really at an initial stage. We will turn the entire stadium’s roof into solar system. This will be good for the environment, and energy will also be saved. If everything matches with our investment and return calculations, we will do the solar system.” Source: daily Sun
