Alauddin’s five-for powers Rangpur past Barishal

Bangla Press Desk:  Rangpur pacer Alauddin Babu delivered a stunning spell, taking 5-16 – the best figures of the NCL T20 so far – to hand his side a commanding win over Barishal at the Sylhet International Stadium outer ground on Monday.

Put in to bat, Barishal never found momentum and were dismissed for 106 in 19.3 overs. They slipped to 32-2 in the seventh over, and though Fazle Mahmud Rabbi (27) and Zahiduzzaman Khan (22*) attempted to rebuild, a middle-order collapse saw them lose four wickets for just five runs, tumbling from 53-3 to 58-5 in nine deliveries.

Nasir Hossain, Mushfik Hasan, Abu Hasim and Abdul Gaffar Saqlain claimed the first five wickets before Alauddin ran through the lower order, taking the final five scalps to finish with his record haul.

Rangpur chased the target comfortably, reaching 107-4 in just 13.3 overs. Despite early losses of Tanbir Hayder and Abdullah Al Mamun (24), Anik Sarker sealed the game with a blistering 54 off 35 balls, striking three fours and five sixes.

In the day’s second game, Chattogram defeated Rajshahi by 30 runs at the same venue. Mominul Haque (45 off 37) and Shahadat Hossain (45 off 33) powered Chattogram to 155-6 with an 85-run stand for the second wicket.

Rajshahi’s chase faltered after Najmul Hossain Shanto’s dismissal in the eighth over, and they were restricted to 125-8. Md Rubel was the pick of the bowlers, taking 3-24 to earn the player-of-the-match award.

Hasan Mahmud, Nayeem Hasan and Mehedi Hasan Rana took one wicket each, while SM Meherob Hasan and Asaduzzaman Payel grabbed two apiece for Rajshahi. This article was originally published on Daily Sun.
