Bangladesh Bank Orders Sufficient ATM Cash Supply for Eid-ul-Adha
Bangla Press Desk: To ensure seamless service for customers during Eid-ul-Adha, Bangladesh Bank has directed all banks across the country to maintain sufficient cash in their automated teller machines (ATMs). The central bank issued a circular on Thursday to ensure smooth banking operations during the festive season.
The circular emphasised that banks should ensure round-the-clock availability of ATM services, with prompt resolution of any technical issues at ATM booths. It also instructed banks to maintain an adequate cash supply to prevent disruptions. Additionally, banks were reminded to implement special measures to safeguard customers against fraud and other inconveniences.
The central bank further stressed the importance of security at ATM booths and advised banks to guarantee uninterrupted services at point-of-sale (POS) terminals, e-payment gateways, and mobile financial services.
For e-payment gateways, banks must ensure ‘card not present’ security for card-based transactions, and transactions through accounts should be secured using ‘two-factor authentication.’
Banks offering mobile financial services, including bKash, Rocket, and Nagad, have also been urged to ensure smooth transaction processing.
To keep customers informed, the Bangladesh Bank has instructed that all transactions should trigger SMS alerts, notifying customers of any amount transacted.
