Bangladesh crush Singapore to register consolation victory
Bangla Press Desk:   Bangladesh under-23 national football team thrashed Singapore with a 4-1 scoreline in their third and final match of the AFC U-23 Asian Cup Qualifiers on Tuesday at the Viet Tri Stadium in Vietnam. After losing the previous matches against Vietnam by 0-2 and Yemen by 0-1, it was the last chance for the red-and-green side to return home with some pride. Although the first half ended with a 0-0 scoreline, the second half was full of dominance by the Bangladesh, where four goals were scored in the span of 12 minutes. Fahamedul Islam opened the scoreline in the 70th minute, followed by Al-Amin in the 72nd.
Mohsin Ahmed joined the party eight minutes later, while the last goal was scored by Sheikh Morsalin in the 82nd minute. Singapore’s Nadim scored a goal in the first minute of the added time, but it was too late for them for the comeback. The scoreline could have been 5-1 if Morsalin had finished the chance in the following minute. After this dominant performance, the Bangladesh U-23 team finished the tournament at the 3rd position in the group standings, which results in disqualification of the young Tigers.
Meanwhile, in the other group match, Vietnam and Yemen — both winners of their first two games — will face off in a crucial encounter to secure direct qualification for the Asian Cup as group champions. This article was originally published on Daily Sun.
