Bangladesh fight back before tea on day one
Bangla Press Desk: Bangladesh clawed their way back into the contest with three wickets in the second session on the opening day of the Sylhet Test.
At tea, Ireland reached 184 for 4, with Curtis Campher unbeaten on 35 and Lorcan Tucker on 22. The pair added 34 runs for the fifth wicket after Ireland lost three key batters during the session.
The visitors scored 90 runs in the session for the loss of those three wickets.
Pacer Nahid Rana provided the breakthrough right after the lunch break, removing the dangerous Paul Stirling for 60 off 76 balls — an innings laced with nine boundaries.
In the 26th over, Rana extracted extra bounce outside off stump, forcing Stirling into a shot that resulted in a thick edge to Shadman Islam at second slip.
In the very next over, Mehidy Hasan Miraz struck with the help of DRS to dismiss Harry Tector for 1. The experienced off-spinner then removed debutant Cade Carmichael, who top-edged a reverse sweep, with skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto diving forward to complete the catch. Carmichael made a composed 59 off 129 deliveries, hitting seven fours.
Bangladesh could have added another wicket before the break, but Shanto dropped a sharp chance off debutant Hasan Murad’s bowling in the final over of the session when Tucker was on 11.
Earlier in the day, Bangladesh’s sloppy fielding had already cost them three opportunities in the first session.
