Bangla Press Desk: Bangladesh ended their Asia Cup Hockey campaign in sixth place after going down 6-1 to Japan in the fifth-place playoff on Sunday at Bihar Sports University Hockey Stadium in Rajgir, India.
The defeat means Japan secured fifth position and direct entry into the World Cup Qualifiers, while Bangladesh must now face Pakistan in a three-match playoff series to stay in contention.
Bangladesh started well against Japan, winning three penalty corners in the opening minutes, but failed to convert their chances. Japan made no such mistake, scoring twice in the first quarter through Ryosuke Shinohara and Koji Yamasaki.
Although Bangladesh held firm in the second quarter, Japan struck twice in quick succession in the third and added a fifth early in the final quarter. Amirul Islam scored a consolation goal for Bangladesh, but Japan restored their dominance moments later to finish with a 6-1 win.
