Bangla Press Desk: Bangladesh lost to Australia by 37 runs due to a poor bowling performance and irresponsible batting by the middle-order batsmen. Chasing a mammoth target of 203 runs set by Australia, Bangladesh finished at 166.
Batting first, Australia posted a massive total within the allotted overs. After David Warner (66) and Callum Ferguson (63) played brilliant innings, a late, explosive knock by Ben Dunk helped the Aussies put up a formidable score. For Bangladesh, Abu Jayed Rahi claimed 3 wickets, while Ziaur Rahman and Rubel Hossain took 2 and 1 wickets, respectively.
In reply, Bangladesh started well; contributions of 41 runs from Imrul Kayes and 27 from Fazle Mahmud Rabbi kept the team in the contest. However, the batting lineup collapsed after losing two quick wickets with the team score at 71. While other batsmen failed, captain Mahmudullah Riyad held one end and fought a lone battle. He smashed a fifty off just 26 balls and played an explosive innings of 73 off 35 balls, featuring 8 sixes. Ultimately, however, Bangladesh could not reach the target, as the runs required for victory in the final over were simply too many.
