Bangladesh rout Sri Lanka to seal semifinal spot
Bangla Press Desk: Bangladesh under-17 national football team secured their second emphatic win in the ongoing SAFF U-17 Championship, defeating hosts Sri Lanka 4-0 at the Racecourse Ground on Sunday. The victory confirmed Bangladesh as Group ‘A’ champions and ensured their place in the semifinals. The young Tigers broke the deadlock in the 18th minute when Md Arif found the net to give Bangladesh a deserved lead. After the interval, Md Rifat Kazi stole the show with a sensational hat-trick, scoring in the 49th, 63rd, and 88th minutes to seal a comprehensive triumph. With this result, Bangladesh will now face the runners-up of Group ‘B’ in the semifinals, which will be determined on Monday when India and Pakistan clash in their final group-stage match. The losing side from that encounter will meet Bangladesh on 25 September at the Racecourse Ground in Colombo.
Earlier in the tournament, the young Tigers had made a strong statement with a 4-0 victory over Nepal, showcasing their attacking prowess. The final of the SAFF U-17 Championship is scheduled for 27 September at the same venue. This article was originally published on Daily Sun. [Bangla Press is a global platform for free thought.
