Bangladesh secure one gold, one silver, six bronze at SA Youth TT
Bangla Press Desk: Bangladesh enjoyed a strong showing at the South Asian Youth Table Tennis Championship, confirming eight medals, one gold, one silver and six bronze, after the first three days of competition.
On Friday, Bangladesh added one silver and five bronze medals to their haul. Earlier, the Under-19 boys’ team struck gold in the team event, while the Under-19 girls finished third to claim bronze. Despite a mixed outcome in team events, Bangladesh remain firmly in the medal race in singles.
Top-ranked girl paddler Khoi Khoi Sai Marma advanced as group runners-up and will face Sri Lanka’s Shamalshe Halawathage in the Under-19 quarter-finals.
In the boys’ Under-19 singles, Nafiz Iqbal and Abul Hashem Hasib progressed to the quarter-finals, while Md Midul Rahman reached the pre-quarter-finals in the Under-15 category.
Bangladesh also shone in doubles and mixed doubles. The Under-19 boys’ pair of Nafiz and Hasib powered into the final to secure silver, while multiple combinations across age groups ensured bronze finishes.
The medal tally could yet improve on the final day, with several Bangladeshi paddlers still alive in the singles and doubles events.
