Bangladesh to host 2nd Women’s Kabaddi World Cup in November

Bangla Press Desk: As part of the “Festival of Youth 2025” celebrations, Bangladesh is set to host the 2nd Women’s Kabaddi World Cup from November 15 to 25 at the Shaheed Suhrawardi Indoor Stadium in Mirpur, Dhaka. The tournament is being organized by the Bangladesh Kabaddi Federation under the patronage of the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the National Sports Council.

After two changes in schedule and venue, the world event is finally heading to Bangladesh. Initially, it was scheduled to be held in Bihar, India, in June, before being shifted to Hyderabad’s Gachibowli Indoor Stadium from August 3 to 10. However, it was later postponed indefinitely due to scheduling conflicts with the ongoing Pro Kabaddi League.

The Women’s Kabaddi World Cup is returning after a 13-year gap, with Patna having hosted the inaugural edition in 2012, where India claimed the title. Iran, Japan, and Thailand finished second, third, and fourth, respectively.

This year’s tournament will feature 14 participating nations — Bangladesh (hosts), Argentina, Chinese Taipei, Germany, the Netherlands, Iran, India, Japan, Kenya, Nepal, Thailand, Uganda, Zanzibar, and Poland. Pakistan has been listed as a standby team.

The government has already allocated the Shaheed Suhrawardi Indoor Stadium for the event. Preparations are underway to ensure smooth arrangements for the visiting teams — including travel, accommodation, security, and local transportation — in close coordination with relevant government agencies, informed Bangladesh Kabaddi Federation President and Inspector General of Police (IGP) Baharul Alam, BPM.

For the first time in Bangladesh’s history, a global women’s kabaddi tournament will be staged on home soil. With active participation from youth and a growing focus on sports development, the Women’s Kabaddi World Cup 2025 is expected to be one of the major highlights of the Festival of Youth celebrations.
