Bangladesh U-17 triumph in series decider against Sri Lanka
Bangla Press Desk: Bangladesh Under-17 cricket team sealed the three-match youth ODI series with a convincing five-wicket win in the final match at the Bir Shreshtha Shaheed Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Cricket Stadium, Chattogram.
Sri Lanka, opting to bat first, were dismissed for 179 in 45.1 overs. Sanul Weeraratne top-scored with a composed 66 off 91 balls, while Hirun Matheesha contributed 37 off 53. Bangladesh’s bowlers maintained control throughout, with Akash emerging as the standout performer by claiming four wickets.
Chasing 180, Bangladesh reached 181 for 5 in 38.5 overs with a confident and well-paced batting display. Sk Jarif Siyam guided the innings with an impressive 51 off 51 balls, supported by Kawsar Ahmed’s 30 off 46 and Adrito’s solid 54 off 77. Akhash Roi ensured a calm finish, remaining unbeaten on 33 off 47 balls. Despite losing an early wicket, Bangladesh stayed in command of the chase. Sri Lanka’s most successful bowler was Gimhan Mendis, who picked up two wickets, but the hosts’ composed batting effort ensured a comfortable win and a successful end to the series as Bangladesh Under-17 had taken the series lead in the opener before Sri Lanka levelled it in the second match, leaving the final game to decide the contest.
