BCB defends nomination process, dismisses speculative reports
Bangla Press Desk:   Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has strongly rejected what it described as “speculative, unverified and false claims” circulating in the media regarding the nomination process for its upcoming board elections under Article 9.1 of the BCB Constitution. In an official statement issued on Sunday, the BCB said it had sought a formal legal opinion from Justice Mirza Hussain Haider, a former judge of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh, to provide clarity on the matter. Justice Haider reviewed the 2024 amendment of Article 9.1 — which had been approved by the National Sports Council (NSC) — and confirmed that only members of regular or ad-hoc committees of regional and district cricket associations are eligible to be nominated as councilors. “From the provisions of law and analysis thereof, there is no scope for any other person outside the committee (regular/Ad-hoc) to be nominated as a Councilor from that particular association for the formation of the General Council and the election of the Board of Directors of BCB,” the statement quoted Justice Haider as saying.
BCB also said that every step of the nomination process is being conducted “strictly in line with the provisions of its Constitution and in keeping with the approved framework.”  This article was originally published on Daily Sun.
