BNP backs Government decision
Bangla Press Desk: The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has backed the government’s decision not to play Bangladesh’s matches in India at the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, citing national honour and security concerns.
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said the issue went beyond cricket and was intertwined with international politics and the dignity of the country.
“I am no longer playing cricket now. I am involved in politics. So, international politics is clearly involved in this matter of cricket, and the honour of our country is at stake,” Fakhrul said.
“Undoubtedly, one of our cricketers has been insulted. We believe this is also an insult to our country,” he added.
Fakhrul said his party agreed with the stance taken by the cricket authorities, while also urging dialogue to resolve less critical matters.
“In that case, I think we agree with the decision taken by the Bangladesh Cricket Board. But at the same time, we also believe that it is better to resolve minor issues through discussion and dialogue,” he said.
