Body of Bangladeshi student recovered in Florida, Grief spreads across the U.S.
Bangladeshi student Jamil Limon's body found
Ema Alice: The recovery of the body of a missing Bangladeshi student in Florida has cast a shadow of grief over expatriate communities across the United States. Local authorities have confirmed that the body of Jamil Limon, one of two missing students from the University of South Florida, has been recovered.
Police have arrested a suspect identified as Hisham AbuGarbiyeh, reportedly Limon’s roommate, in connection with the case. The news has deeply shaken Bangladeshi communities in Florida and beyond.
Limon and another Bangladeshi student, Nahida Brishti, had been missing since last week. While Limon’s body was recovered on Friday (April 24), Brishti remains missing. CNN reported on the development.
Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister described the case as “deeply troubling,” saying it has shaken the entire community.
Authorities said law enforcement officers detained Hisham at his residence Friday morning. He now faces multiple charges, including assault, false imprisonment, evidence tampering, abuse of a dead body and failure to report a death.
Jamil Limon was pursuing a PhD in geography, environmental science and policy at the university. Nahida Brishti, also 27, is a chemical engineering student at the same institution. University officials had earlier said both were last seen on April 16.
The exact cause of Limon’s death has not yet been determined. Police said the medical examiner is expected to release autopsy results soon. Meanwhile, search and investigative efforts are ongoing to locate Brishti.
