Bumrah is 100% fit—so why isn't he playing?
Bangla Press Desk: India recently played an ODI series against the West Indies at home and is currently engaged in a T20 series against them.
Most of the players who won the gold medal in cricket at the Asian Games are part of this T20 squad.
However, despite the poor performance of the Indian bowlers against the West Indies, Jasprit Bumrah has not been brought back—even though the star fast bowler is 100% fit. So, why has there been no sign of Bumrah since the Asian Games gold-medal win? An official from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) provided an answer to the Indian media outlet, *The Times of India*.
There is no chance of Bumrah returning for the ongoing T20 series against the West Indies; furthermore, it has been decided to rest him for the ODI series during the upcoming tour of New Zealand.
The BCCI’s objective is to ensure Bumrah is fully prepared for the Test series against New Zealand. To this end, there is a plan to gradually increase his workload.
According to *The Times of India*, Bumrah is currently training with the red ball in his hometown, Ahmedabad. In a few days, he will head to the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru.
Before joining the national squad in New Zealand, he is set to play a match for the India 'A' team.

The India 'A' team's tour of New Zealand begins on November 6, while the first Test between New Zealand and India is scheduled to start on November 19.
Explaining the cautious approach regarding Bumrah, the BCCI official stated, "Bumrah is 100% fit, but enduring the rigors of a long tour would be difficult for him. For now, he is training exclusively with the red ball.
Therefore, it makes no sense to suddenly field him in a white-ball series. He is being prepared specifically for the Test matches."
Due to a knee injury, Bumrah missed two Test matches during this year's tour of Sri Lanka—a series in which India won one Test and drew the other.
India is placing significant emphasis on the Test series during the upcoming tour of New Zealand. To remain in the race for a spot in the World Test Championship final, they have no alternative but to win this series.
