Chapainawabganj, Dhaka, Jashore lead on first day

Bangla Press Desk:   The National Youth Men’s Handball Championship began on Sunday at the Shaheed (Captain) M Monsur Ali National Handball Stadium in Paltan, Dhaka. Ten district teams are competing for the title, with Chapainawabganj, Dhaka, Jashore, Kushtia, Panchagarh, and Faridpur claiming victories on the opening day.

Chapainawabganj opened their campaign with a commanding 40-11 win over Madaripur, leading 23-4 at halftime. Madaripur struggled in their second match as well, losing 35-6 to Panchagarh in a one-sided encounter.

Dhaka displayed attacking brilliance to beat Narail 43-12, maintaining a 22-5 lead at halftime. Jashore edged Jamalpur 37-28 in a thrilling match that was tied 13-13 at halftime. Kushtia overcame Mymensingh 33-23, while Panchagarh maintained dominance with a first-half lead of 19-5. Faridpur wrapped up the day with a 35-27 win against Narail, leading 15-10 at the break.

The championship features 10 district teams divided into two groups. Group A consists of Chapainawabganj, Mymensingh, Panchagarh, Kushtia, and Madaripur, while Group B includes Dhaka, Jashore, Faridpur, Jamalpur, and Narail. The top two teams from each group will advance to the semifinals, with the final scheduled for 15 January.

The tournament was inaugurated by Md Salim Fakir, Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Youth and Sports. The ceremony was attended by Bangladesh Handball Federation (BHF) Secretary General Mohammad Salauddin Ahmed and other officials.
