Court imposes travel ban on ex-BASIC Bank chair Bacchu, 15 others
Bangla Press Desk: A Dhaka court on Monday imposed a travel ban on 16 people, including former chairman of BASIC Bank Sheikh Abdul Hye Bacchu, in a graft case.
The court of Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Sabbir Faiz passed the order following a petition filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Assistant Director Mohammad Shah Jalal.The other individuals barred from leaving the country are former BASIC Bank Managing Director AKM Sazedur Rahman; former MD and CEO Kazi Fakhrul Islam; Deputy Managing Director Fazlus Sobhan; former general manager and company secretary Shah Alam Bhuiyan; former director Jahangir Akhand Selim; Fakhrul Islam; Shubhashish Bose; Nilufar Ahmed; Kazi Akter Hossain; Anwarul Islam; former Gulshan branch manager Shipar Ahmed; Managing Director of Tahmina Denim Ltd Yasir Ahmed Khan; its chairman Kamal Zaman Molla; director Kazi Rizwana Mominul Haque; and chief surveyor Jasim Uddin Chowdhury.According to the case statement, the accused allegedly colluded to embezzle Tk8.40 crore from the Gulshan branch of BASIC Bank. A charge sheet was submitted on 12 June 2023, and further investigation into the case is currently underway following a court order.
The Anti-Corruption Commission said the accused are attempting to leave the country, which could hamper the investigation. Therefore, the travel ban is deemed necessary.Source: daily Sun
