‘Do-or-die’ for young Tigers against Yemen
Bangla Press Desk: Bangladesh under-23 national football team captain Sheikh Morsalin has described their upcoming clash against Yemen as a ‘do-or-die’ encounter in the ongoing AFC U-23 Asian Cup Qualifiers, after a disappointing start to their campaign. The match kicks off at 3:00 PM Bangladesh Standard Time on Saturday at the Viet Tri Stadium in Phu Tho, Vietnam. Bangladesh began their journey with a 0-2 defeat to hosts Vietnam on Wednesday, a result that dealt an early blow to their hopes of qualifying for the continental finals. “In the first match, we did not get the results according to our expectations. The coaches analysed the strength and weakness of the Yemen side in today’s video session. I think, tomorrow, the game is do-or-die for us. So, we have to win anyhow,” Morsalin said in a video message shared by the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF).
The skipper stressed that the team is now united with one common goal: to win. “We all have the same mentality now. We had a team meeting and are committed to win the next match at any cost. If we can win tomorrow’s match, then we will have another chance in the next match,” he added. Assistant coach Hassan Al Mamun, who is set to take his place in the dugout against Yemen just as he did in the opening fixture, echoed his captain’s determination. “We couldn’t perform as expected in the first match. Now, we want to bounce back,” Al Mamun said. “As a team, Yemen are close to our level. They have some individually skillful players, but we’ve identified both their strengths and weaknesses. Inshallah, we’ll return from the field with three points.” Bangladesh currently sit bottom of Group C and will complete their campaign against Singapore on 9 September at the same venue.
