Ferreira injury clouds Proteas World Cup plans
Bangla Press Desk: South Africa face a fresh injury scare ahead of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup after allrounder Donovan Ferreira hurt his shoulder during the SA20.
Ferreira was injured while fielding for Joburg Super Kings against Pretoria Capitals, landing awkwardly on his left shoulder while attempting to stop a boundary on the final ball.
Standing in as captain in the absence of Faf du Plessis, Ferreira later came out to bat but retired hurt after one delivery, struggling to extend his arm. He confirmed post-match that he would undergo scans, with reports indicating a fracture.
The injury rules him out of the remainder of the SA20, with Joburg Super Kings still chasing a playoff spot.
Ferreira’s absence could disrupt South Africa’s World Cup plans, where he was selected as a finisher, reserve wicketkeeper and part-time bowler.
South Africa are also monitoring Tony de Zorzi’s hamstring recovery and continue to face scrutiny over Ottneil Baartman’s omission.
