FIFA president condoles death of former prime minister Begum Khaleda Zia
Bangla Press Desk: FIFA President Gianni Infantino has expressed deep sorrow at the death of former Prime Minister of Bangladesh and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia, the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) said in a press release on Friday.
In a condolence message sent to BFF President Tabith Awal, the FIFA President described Begum Khaleda Zia as an important and pioneering figure in the political history of Bangladesh. He highlighted her historic role as the country’s first female Prime Minister and her lasting contribution to the nation.
“Begum Khaleda Zia was an important and pioneering figure in the political history of Bangladesh. As the first woman to have led the country, she will be remembered for leaving a lasting legacy for generations to come,” Infantino said in his message.
On behalf of the international football community, the FIFA President extended his deepest condolences to the Government of Bangladesh, the Bangladesh Football Federation, and the people of Bangladesh.
Begum Khaleda Zia, a three-time former Prime Minister and one of the most influential figures in Bangladesh’s political history, passed away at 6:00 am on December 30 while undergoing treatment at Evercare Hospital in the capital. Widely known as the “Leader of Mother, Soil and People,” her death marks the end of an era in Bangladeshi politics.
