Bangla Press Desk: A five-day international training programme titled “Chemical Incident Preparedness for Hospitals (HOSPREP)” commenced on Sunday at the Golden Tulip The Grandmark Dhaka.
The event is being jointly organised by the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) and the Bangladesh National Authority for Chemical Weapons Convention (BNACWC), a press release read.
Major General Quazi Md Rashid-Un-Nabi, Director General of the Directorate General of Medical Service (DGMS), Dhaka Cantonment, inaugurated the programme as the chief guest.
The opening ceremony was attended by senior dignitaries from the armed forces, six instructors from OPCW and Bangladesh, and 18 participants representing 10 countries, including Bangladesh.
The training aims to build nationwide capacity among hospitals to effectively manage chemical emergencies and victims of chemical incidents. It focuses on emergency planning, chemical victim decontamination procedures, clinical management, and the prevention of secondary contamination among medical personnel.
Subject matter experts from both home and abroad, including OPCW instructors and specialist physicians from various medical institutions in Bangladesh, are conducting the sessions.
Officials noted that this international collaboration marks a significant step towards strengthening Bangladesh’s preparedness and response capacity for chemical emergencies in line with global safety standards.
