Garment workers are getting a four-day holiday for Durga Puja.
Bangla Press Desk: The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), the apex body of apparel manufacturers and exporters, has announced a three-day holiday for the upcoming autumn Durga Puja festival. Including the weekly holiday on Friday, garment workers will enjoy a total of four days off.
In a press release, the BGMEA stated that all operations at its Dhaka and Chittagong offices will remain suspended from October 20 (Tuesday) to October 22 (Thursday).
The notice further mentioned that official activities at both offices will resume as usual on October 24 (Saturday) following the three-day break. Garment workers are receiving a total of four days of leave, inclusive of the government-mandated weekly holiday on Friday.
Regarding the provision of essential services during the holiday period, the notice stated that to maintain continuity of services—such as the Utilization Declaration (UD) and other urgent tasks—the heads of the BGMEA’s Customs, CMC, Labor, and Fire & Safety departments will conduct operations and provide services online with the necessary staff from their respective departments.
This notice, signed by BGMEA Secretary General Major General Dr. Md. Shahedul Islam (Retd.), has been issued for the information of all officers, employees, and relevant members of the organization in the Dhaka and Chittagong regions.
